ICSI and PICSI: Understanding Advanced Fertilization Methods

ICSI and PICSI are laboratory techniques used in selected IVF cycles to support fertilization.

What ICSI does

In ICSI, an embryologist injects a single sperm directly into a mature egg. It is commonly considered when semen count, movement, or previous fertilization results are concerns.

ICSI does not guarantee fertilization, but it can help in cases where conventional insemination may be less suitable.

Where PICSI may fit

PICSI is a sperm selection method that may be discussed in selected cases. The aim is to help choose sperm with specific binding characteristics before ICSI.

The embryology team and doctor decide whether advanced methods add value in a particular cycle.

Individual selection

These methods are best chosen after semen analysis, previous IVF history, egg number, and lab recommendations are reviewed.
