How IUI works
IUI places prepared sperm directly into the uterus around ovulation. It may be considered when tubes are open, sperm parameters are suitable, and the couple may benefit from better timing and sperm preparation.
IUI is usually simpler than IVF, but it still requires careful cycle tracking. Medication may be used in some cycles to support ovulation.
How IVF differs
IVF involves egg retrieval, fertilization in the laboratory, embryo culture, and embryo transfer. It is often considered for blocked tubes, severe male-factor infertility, low ovarian reserve, advanced reproductive age, endometriosis, or repeated unsuccessful simpler treatments.
IVF gives more information about egg fertilization and embryo development, which can be useful in complex cases.
The right plan is personal
The best choice depends on age, diagnosis, duration of infertility, semen analysis, tube status, previous treatment history, and emotional or financial priorities.
