Understanding the term
Ovarian reserve refers to the remaining egg supply in the ovaries. It naturally declines with age, but the pace differs between individuals.
Common markers include AMH blood testing, antral follicle count on ultrasound, and sometimes FSH or estradiol levels.
How results are used
Reserve testing helps doctors estimate likely response to ovarian stimulation and plan medication dose. It can also help decide whether treatment should move quickly.
A low result does not mean pregnancy is impossible, and a normal result does not guarantee success. Egg quality is strongly linked to age.
A planning tool
The most useful interpretation combines ovarian reserve, age, cycle history, ultrasound, semen analysis, and reproductive goals.
